...A new book

A new book
from Ptilotus Press
A new anthology of works by thirty two Central Australian writers was launched
on May 1st 2009
Fishtails in the dust: writing from Central Australia includes short
stories, articles and poems by established and upcoming local writers, many
of whom had work published in the previous anthology The milk in the sky.
Both these books are from Ptilotus Press; the local community publishing enterprise.
A percentage of the income from sales of the new book will be donated to the
indigenous Literacy Project (ILP), a national initiative that provides books
and other culturally appropriate learning material to remote Aboriginal communities,
many in the Northern Territory. This project is administered through the Fred
Hollows Foundation. For more information about ILP visit

books.org
Writers include Ali Cobby Eckermann and Jennifer Mills recent winners in the
NT Literary Awards, local playwright Michael Watts, novelist Jo Dutton and
poet Carmel Williams and more. The original artwork for the cover is by local
artist Sally Mumford.
This important book is very much the potent messenger for our times
from the writers who are searching for the words to the stories from their
hearts, and I have found there is much to think about from reading these marvelous
stories and poems
Alexis Wright, author of Carpentaria winner of the Miles Franklin Literary
Award in 2007.
